Bilborough Air Cadet Member completes Belgium 24hour “Death March” in Memory of Nottingham Airman

A member of staff from 504 (West Nottingham) Squadron, Air Cadets based in Bilborough, Nottingham recently completed the grueling 24hour Belgium Death March, 
which took place in Bornem in Belgium to raise funds in memory of Leading Aircaftman Martin Beard who was killed whilst serving his country in Basra, Iraq.
 
On the 7th August 2007, LAC Martin Beard was killed in action while serving with 1 Squadron, Royal Air Force Regiment. 
His colleague, Cpl Hayden, has received the Military Cross for his action on the day. Martin Beard’s family have set up a memorial fund, with the intention of raising money 
for the RAF Association and the RAF Benevolent Fund.

The Belgian Deathmarch is an annual event held in Bornem in Belgium. It involves walking 100km (63miles)
 in less than 24 hrs. 60% of people who attempt the March do not complete it!!!
 
Officer Cadet Ashley Rudd had also recently completed the Nijmegen Marches completed all 100km in 20hours and 30minutes 
and now has his sights set on running the Robin Hood Half Marathon with two other colleagues in full DPM and Webbing this is to take place in September.
 
Squadron Commander: Flt Lt Paul Woodward said: “It’s a lot of work, pain, sweat to complete this March within the 24hour period – 
I am proud that Ashley has done this for a good cause.”
