Newsflash

25 members of Staff and Cadets from 504 (West Nottingham) Squadron,
Air Cadets based in Bilborough, Nottingham recently passed the
HeartStart Award.

The aim of the HeartStart course sponsored by the British Heart Foundation
is to learn and apply basic Life Saving Skills - Cadets learn the signs and
symptoms of a heart attack, how to carry out CPR, place a casualty in the
recovery position and how to deal with someone who is bleeding or chocking.

Flt Lt Woodward, Officer Commanding said “All Skills that have been learned
by the Cadets can add quality of life to an individual if applied immediately when
there is a first aid problem. If a casualty is supported before professional help
arrives – it can double the chances of survival.”

LONGEST WEEKEND-World Record set by High Flying Cadets

                                                                         South And East Midlands Wing

On the Weekend of the 19th – 21st June 2009, 10 Cadets from 504 ( West Nottingham) Squadron joined 276

Cadets from South and East Midlands Wing to help set a new World Record for the most Cadets to fly during a weekend.

The event took part at RAF Syston, home of 643 and 644 Volunteer Gliding Squadrons, giving the Cadets the opportunity to fly in either the Vigilant Motor Glider or the Viking  winch launched Glider. Both Squadrons were stretched from the start helping the Wing to complete this mammoth effort. By the end of the weekend, with 228 Cadets flying.

The event was planned to coincide with the 10th Anniversary of the Formation of  South and East Midlands

Wing, which was an amalgamation of South Midlands Wing and East Midlands Wing in 1999. Since then, the Wing has gone on to become one of the largest and most successful Wings in the Air Training Corps.

                                Climbing Wall

Alongside the Flying, the Cadets were given the opportunity to tackle the new Corps Climbing walls, as well as Weapons Handling Tests on the .22 Rifle, and a whole host of Sporting activities and Leadership exercises.
